Jesus' Compassion

Bible Verse of the Day

When Jesus came down from the mountainside, large crowds followed him. A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.”

Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Immediately he was cleansed of his leprosy.

Matthew 8:1-3

If you were asked how would you describe the heart of Jesus?  When you read the above passage words like loving and compassionate come to mind.  When you read this more closely you realize Jesus touches the man before He heals him.

Why is that significant?  Although the man desired healing his heart missed human touch.  Being a leper, the man would have been considered unclean and so would anyone that would touch him, so obviously people avoided him and shunned him.

Jesus healed the heart before He healed the body.

I don’t know about you, but the depth of this compassion and the understanding of the human soul brings me great comfort knowing that Jesus knows what I (and you) need even if we don’t realize it or have the words to express it.

How amazing is that?

So, what is it that your heart needs right now?  How about inviting Jesus in to do what He knows that you need?

Tomorrow we will look at the fierce heart of our Savior.

In the Father’s love, Sam
